of the existing in the world) and 300 of them are endemic;
between 40,000 and 50,000 species of vascular plants;
one from five species of butterflies as well as a bigger
ant kind than the existing in all British islands.
The Andean mountain range that lays from north to south
in the continent, is the main cause of the amazing bio
diversity of this land of extraordinary beauty. The
mountains range has created a singular climatic diversity
that makes the region a great contrast of arid deserts,
exuberant jungles; glaciers and savannas; florid valleys
